I just see a large black square instead of a course??
#4

Most likely, you are launching one of our Shockwave/Flash courses.  Please view our HELP pages for this type of course to install the missing components.

1. When you first launch these courses the system will automatically check your connection and operating software.
If you receive a prompt for updating SHOCKWAVE please do so

2. You may receive a prompt for accessing our Learning Management Server (LMS) - there is no security risk - check the bottom box

3. Missing Components - Reinstall

YOU MUST HAVE SHOCKWAVE INSTALLED TO RUN THESE COURSES,
or else you will only see a large
Black Box.

For Microsoft Internet Explorer Browsers:

It is recommended you uninstall shockwave first, and then re-install. Click here to uninstall.
Install Shockwave for
Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP

For Netscape Browsers:

It is recommended you uninstall shockwave first, and then re-install. Click here to uninstall.
Install Shockwave for
Windows 95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP

The test doesn't start after the presentation is finished??
#5

The test launches automatically at the end of the presentation but you need to have JAVA installed and enabled - especially with Internet Explorer 6.xx.

Check # 1.  Run the Microsoft Windows Update for the Internet Explorer Browser.  Make sure you have all critical updates installed and the most recent DIRECT X package. If you are accessing this program from your company - be sure to check with your LAN or systems administrator FIRST - some companies have their firewalls configured with settings in the browsers that may conflict with these updates.
Check # 2. ENABLE JAVA:
TOOLS, Internet Options, SECURITY TAB, Custom Level, JAVA permissions
Set the radio button to low safety (if it works then you can try resetting to Medium safety) Click OK and accept the changes
Check # 3. TRUST CREDENCIA:
TOOLS, Internet Options, PRIVACY TAB, EDIT
in the ADDRESS of Web Site type in:
www.credencia.net and click ALLOW
128.121.13.162 and click allow
Repeat with our Media Server: 64.39.26.181 and click allow
Click OK and accept the changes

My courses start then stop almost immediately - says closed

There are 4 primary reasons for this message.

# 1. Your Media Player Settings
Our system uses the most generic Microsoft Windows Player so we can have our content delivered to your PC (stream) via your company or home PC firewall.  We do this by streaming to Port 80 (the generic connection you use for accessing the Internet).  More Information - verify your settings

# 2. Your connection speed to the Internet
Our system is designed for a clean connection with a 56K modem or higher.  Of course the higher, the better!  If your connection is too slow or has noise on the line, you will need to find a faster connection method.
More Information - test your connection setting

# 3. Your PC Settings
Microsoft is constantly making enhancements to its software, and if you don't keep it up to date; some components don't function well.  Run the Windows Update of your machine.

Codec 75 Install

674kb

Many questions have been asked about Windows XP SP2 and Keystone courseware,  they are compatible, but sometimes issues arise concerning automatic codec downloads,  particularly Codec 75. This process is sometimes blocked by the SP2 firewall. If you are having a problem with downloading a codec, the best way to correct it, is to install the codec manually with Codec 75 Installer.exe   It can be downloaded here
http://www.keystonelearning.com/company/support/files/Codec/codecpatch1.0.zip

Instructions
Click the above link, and choose “Save”

Extract the file by right clicking and choosing “extract”, or by using WinZip.
Double click the Codec 75 Installer.exe (USA icon)

The program will finish, and will message the user of success

Note* If you have difficulty installing, make sure that the exe file, as well as the accompanying folder are extracted to a location on your PC and not simply "viewed" by the Windows Zip file viewer, or the codec will not install properly.

Also, you may need to be logged in as Administrator on your system, to have rights to run programs.

You will need to visit: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/qtcheck/. Once there, Quicktime will prompt you to download the necessary plugin (ActiveX plugin) for QuickTime.

I do not get any audio when playing the Keystone courses using Windows XP as my Operating System.

Although Windows Media Player 8 supports many audio (or video) codec files, most of them are not installed by default. In order to download the correct file, please connect to the internet and (while connected) browse the CD to the "video" folder and try to play a media file. When the Media Player window opens up, it will connect to Microsoft and will start downloading the correct codec file automatically.

When I install a Keystone course I get an error that reads:

#47

Simply click the "OK" button and ignore the message. DO NOT uninstall Active Movie. All of KeyStone Learning Systems' CD-ROM courses work fine with newer versions of Active Movie.

When I try to run the Keystone program I see the following error:

"Please make sure that the correct CD for this course is in your CD-ROM drive. If you installed the course files to your hard drive, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the course.
#49

Please make sure the correct CD is in the CD-ROM drive, and the path is pointing to the CD-ROM drive. Also make sure you have also installed for the course you are trying to view. If you have done all this and the error is still appearing, please download the correction patch

When I click on any of the main menu buttons on my Keystone course I see the following error:

"Error interacting with database. Result tables. Please contact your system administrator." "Run-time error '430'... Class does not support Automation or does not support expected interface."

You will need to upgrade the data access components on your computer in order to access the database. This can be done by downloading and installing the latest MDAC from Microsoft. Please see the following link for more information: http://www.microsoft.com/data/download_260rtm.htm.

During installation of a Keystone course I get an error that reads:

"iKernal.exe could not be copied to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32..."

After installation I try to run the program, but I get the following error:

"An error occurred when attempting to open a database connection ADO could not find the specific provider."

Make sure you are running Windows Media Player 6.4 for Windows NT and 95, and 7.0 for Windows 98, 2000, and ME. Here are instructions on checking your Media Player version and on Media Player upgrade instructions:

Go to the Start menu. Click on Programs, and then Accessories. Under either Entertainment or Multimedia, open Windows Media Player. Once in Windows Media Player, go to Help in the top menu, and look in About Media Player for the version.

If you would like to upgrade your Windows Media Player please see http://microsoft.com/windows/mediaplayer/en/default.asp for a free download from Microsoft.

You may also download a file called "KeyStone CBT" to get an updated version of a CBT file. Once you download this file, please install it and it will create a file called "CBT.exe" on your C:\Program Files\KeyStone Learning Systems\KeyStoneCBT\ directory. Please copy this new CBT file onto every lesson folder on your "KeyStone Learning Systems" directory and overwrite the existing CBT.exe on each of the lesson folders

I don't get any sound when I try to view my Keystone course.
#54

There are a few things that could cause this to happen, first of all:

  • Check to make sure all audio hookups to the speakers or headphones are hooked up and turned on.
  • Go to the little gold speaker in the bottom right hand corner or the screen and double click on it, make sure nothing is muted and everything is selected in Windows 95.
  • Make sure you are running Windows Media Player 6.4 for Windows NT and 95, and 7.1 for Windows 98 and 2000.
If you are running 7.0 or above, please go to Tools and then Options on the Media Player, and click on the Formats tab on the Windows Media Player. Please make sure all formats are checked and installed.
  • Go to My Computer and open the CD-ROM drive. Open the course folder, and then the Video folder. Play any file located in the video folder. If there still is no sound, contact your sound card manufacturers and download the latest drivers from their web site. Or see http://www.drivershq.com/

Please check the following:

  • Check to make sure that you are using the latest video drivers for your system.
  • Try setting your display settings to 1024*768 resolution with "High-Color 16bit".
  • Download the latest directX drivers from: www.microsoft.com/directx.

Make sure no other software is running (sometimes they will show up as icons by the clock in the taskbar), and that all Anti-Virus software is disabled.

I am experiencing difficulty when trying to run KeyStone Learning Systems software over a network or from my hard drive.
#58

KeyStone Learning Systems software uses a single user format that is not designed to run from anywhere except from the CD-ROM. Please visit our site for information about networkable versions of our product . If you do have the networkable version of the courseware, please contact us at techsupport@keystonelearning.com .

I follow the installation instructions for my Kestone course, but all I get is an error message stating that the setup file (or setupkeystone.exe) cannot be found.
#60

Go to My Computer and open the CD-ROM drive (right-click and select OPEN). Double-click on the SetupKeyStone.exe or Setup.exe file. This will start installation.

When I launch the Keystone courses (using the new interface), I get an error message saying:

"Unable to open course files. Course files may be missing or may be in use. This may also occur if drive mappings have been changed. Contact your system administrator, or reinstall."

#63

This usually occurs when the cbt.ini file on the course is not pointing to the correct database, please download this cbtinifixer.exe file and double-click on it, locate the "courses.txt" on the server, and click on "open". Try the course again after you see a pop-up window stating that the update is "done".
Also, browse the "database" folder of the course in question and check the sizes of the cbt.v12 and cbt.mdb files, if they are 0 kb then they must be replaced with fresh copies from the course CD

When viewing a Keystone course that is found on the "keystone3" directory, I get the following error :

"Unable to load external movie driver for: (file name).avi. Possibly the driver is missing or there is not enough memory"

#64

Most likely there are some files missing on the level with the problem. Most likely files like: A5QT32.XMO and A5VFW32.XMO are missing or corrupted, please compare this level with a working level of the same course and see if a file is missing or has a "0 KB" as its file size, if so go ahead and copy the file from the working level.

I have Windows XP/Windows 200 Pro, and no web access..... when I view the courses, some have no sound on some or all movie files.

Keystone Codec Patch

This patch file was developed by Keystone to correct several issues with users experiencing sound problems when using Windows XP, Windows 2000, and others when there was no internet connection available.

To use this patch, download the file listed below to a floppy disc or some other media that you can take to the affected PC. Unzip the Codec Patch 1.0 file to that machine, then run the "Codec.exe" file to install the codec update. You should see a message box informing of the update success. Reboot and try the courseware.

Keystone Network Install

The test environment was a Windows 2000 Adv. Server with Windows XP users as clients.

Create a Shared folder on the server and change the permissions on the share to allow full access by the users on your network. ( They do not need administrative rights on their login, only read/write privileges on that particular share )

Each of the network users must map a network drive to the shared folder on the server.

You must then contact the Keystone Technical Support Department for further assistance.

Step #3: Goto Download unsigned ActiveX controls and select the PROMPT button

Step #4: Hit OK and the YES to accept the new settings

Step #5: Close out of your browser and login again.  Launch the course
and you should now be prompted to automatically install the Microsoft Codec file.
Once installed, the presentation will play on your machine
